Your First Scene
Join studio director Robert Gatewood for a hands-on exploration of the basic unit of the screenplay: the scene.
Using examples from contemporary film, we'll begin by identifying the dramatic elements of a great scene and discuss what every good scene can and should do. From there we'll learn how to translate the scene we see in our minds into an effective written representation on the page, using basic screenwriting software and the nuts and bolts of the screenwriter's toolbox--action lines, character introductions, and dialogue. Participants will leave with the beginning of their first scene and the essential building blocks to write their own screenplay.
A perfect working introduction to the form and function of the modern screenplay.
