Personal Essay & Memoir
For beginning and continuing writers of personal essay and memoir, this 4-week workshop offers ongoing support in a constructive small group setting.
The focus of this workshop will be moving forward from wherever you are in your writing practice. Beginning writers will identify the material they most care about and find the best structure to give it shape. Continuing writers will deepen their material and explore new directions. Together we’ll read contemporary examples of personal nonfiction and take a close look at techniques specific to our genre: narrative versus reflective voice, scene-making, navigating memory, and creating self as character. We’ll share our work, generate new material through writing prompts, and offer constructive feedback to our peers. Each writer will receive detailed individual feedback from the instructor, personal assignments to develop their material, and reading recommendations specific to their project.
This workshop series will continue with another 4-week session in July.
