Personal Essay & Memoir:
Writing Motherhood

Motherhood. Few events carry the power to transform our lives so irrevocably on so many levels: physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual. And yet, as universal as this passage may be, every woman’s experience is unique.

As mothers, it can be difficult to articulate the depth of these changes, or simply find the time to write them down. In this
8-week workshop, we’ll come together to read personal narratives by contemporary female authors (i.e., writers who are also moms), ranging from the funny to the philosophical. We’ll use our readings to inspire our own writing, whether it’s a journal documenting our day-to-day experience, or the beginnings of an essay or memoir. Each week, we’ll share our work and discuss the directions it may take in a supportive, small group setting.

This is your opportunity to explore in writing the many facets of motherhood, and to delve into those that most fascinate, puzzle, and provoke.

All levels welcome. Limited to 6 participants.

Financial aid available. If you’d like to take this workshop but can’t afford the full cost, please e-mail to ask about financial aid.
