Writing the YA/MG Adventure Novel
Reading adventure novels can be thrilling, and writing one can be equally as exciting.
In this 4-week workshop we'll explore the history of adventure novels and why they're so endearing to generation after generation. Then we'll dive into essential elements of writing for the MG/YA audience, followed by specific ideas of how to make your adventure novel gallop apace!
We'll spend time in each class reading the work of others, including classics like Tolkien, blockbusters like Hunger Games and Percy Jackson, up to current debuts to get a sense of how the genre has evolved. Using these authors as inspiration, we'll generate our own work and practice getting our own adventurous voices on the page.
