Short Story: Brief Encounters

In a short story, as in life, a brief encounter can have a lasting effect on the hearts and minds of the people involved.

In this workshop, we'll take a close look at a handful of short stories in which characters are changed through such circumstances. These stories will vary in style and effect, and participating writers will be asked to test these styles and effects on their own original story premises.  Each week will introduce a new story and a new writing prompt, both of which we will discuss as a group during the workshop.

Participants will come away with an appreciation for the power of the "small" moment as well as a set of narrative strategies and writing techniques to maximize the power and effect of their own "brief encounter" stories.
